United Nations

Since its inception, the Kimberley Process has been backed by the United Nations, both the General Assembly and the Security Council. Every year, the KP Chair is requested to report to the General Assembly on the work of the KP, and each year since 2000, th General Assembly has adopted a resolution on the role of diamonds in fuelling conflict, backing the KP by consensus. The Security Council also endorsed the KP in its resolution 1459 (2003) and has worked with the Kimberley Process, most recently on the cases of Liberia and Cote d'Ivoire.
